Meditate with other New Orleanians

NOLA Mindfulness—In addition to the 8-week MBSR course, we also offer two drop-in meditation groups. The groups meet on Monday, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., and on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both groups are held at the Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center, 3900 General Taylor. The groups are usually facilitated by Dan Lawton, although other individuals occasionally lead practice. $10 suggested donation. 

New Orleans Insight Meditation Group—This is an Insight meditation group, which meets on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. NOLA Mindfulness instructor Dan Lawton teaches every other week. The group meets inside Aikido of New Orleans, which is on the third floor of 2134 Magazine Street. There is a buzzer on the door. 

Mindfulness Community of Greater New Orleans—This is a Zen group in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, which meets Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 8:30. Those new to the group are asked to arrive at 6:15. The group meets at the Mid-City Zen Center, 3248 Castiglione. 

School for Contemplative Living—Has a variety of offerings, some of which are mindfulness related. www.thescl.net. 

Refuge Recovery—A Buddhist-inspired path to recovery from drugs, alcohol, or other addictions. Meets on Sundays, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 4210 St. Claude, and on Wednesdays, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Cafe Mojo, 1550 Race Street.

Tibetan House—Offers a great class by the name of Sitting in Stillness: Introduction to Meditation Practice in a beautiful meditation room in the back for just $10 to drop in or $30 for 30 days. See class schedule here: www.tibetanhouse.com/class-schedules. 

 

Zen & Mind Family—Offers intro, intermediate, and advance meditation courses with Monk Thay of Thailand at locations through the city including the Tibetan House, Xavier, and the Van Hahn Buddhist Temple as well as Meditation retreats. Contact Monk at zenandmindfamily@gmail.com. 

 

Midweek-Mindfulness—The first Wednesday of the month, gather in the garden at Longue Vue to decompress, de-stress, and come back to center. Dr. Jess Tregle will lead a guided meditation session designed to help you greet the rest of the week with grace. $10 Suggested Donation. Guests are encouraged to bring their own mat. Out of respect for the calming atmosphere we are attempting to create, please arrive a few minutes early. Rain or shine!
